GREGORY
A. CONIGLIARO President of Conigliaro Industries, graduated from Tufts University
with a Civil Engineering Degree in 1987. He worked as a site surveyor and civil
engineer in both the public and private sectors, most notably as a contract
environmental engineer at the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.
While there, he read the state’s original Solid Waste Master Plan, which
prompted the founding of Conigliaro Industries in 1990.
Since 1990, Conigliaro
Industries has grown from 1 to 40 employees. The firm owns and
operates a fully permitted 88,000 square foot Material Recovery Facility in
Framingham, Massachusetts.
Now in its sixteenth year of operation, Conigliaro Industries
serves 550 customers, diverting close to 125 tons per day of recyclables from
local landfills and
incinerators.
Mr. Conigliaro emphasizes a “Total Recycling Concept.” Begun
as a paper recycling company, Mr. Conigliaro’s unwillingness to say no
over the years to the question “Can It Be Recycled?”, lead to the
firm’s current list of 150 acceptable standard and difficult recyclables.
As the company’s lead salesperson, Mr. Conigliaro’s customers achieve
recycling rates of up to 90% while meeting their environmental goals and saving
money.
Beyond recycling, Mr. Conigliaro has pioneered many Product Stewardship
initiatives for manufacturers across the country. He oversees
the company’s
efforts in this area, developing and implementing product design criteria,
product take-back, mail-back, disassembly, destruction, and recycling programs.
Conigliaro
Industries recently developed “Boston’s
Best Patch” and “Plas-Crete Wall Blocks.” Both of these products are made from recycled mixed plastics
and were developed in-house by Conigliaro Industries’ team of engineers.
These “vertical integration” projects are part of Mr. Conigliaro’s
goal to eventually make a product out of every recyclable material
handled by his firm.
He believes strongly in cooperative assistance and spends
much of his time seeking and coordinating help from many other
recycling stakeholders,
including The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection,
WasteCap of Massachusetts and the American Plastics Council
among others.
Paramount
to all his efforts, is Mr. Conigliaro’s ongoing mission to create truly
world-class web based technologies to model, automate and simplify one of the
country’s oldest industries. This is a work in progress and the impetus
behind the web site you now visit.
Mr. Conigliaro is a Lieutenant Colonel
in the Massachusetts Air National Guard. He is assigned
to Joint Force Headquarters, Milford, MA as the Massachusetts Air National
Guard Homeland Security and Planning
Officer. In this capacity, he is involved in preparing
the MA ANG to respond to all types of natural and manmade disasters.
Mr. Conigliaro
is a member of the Young Entrepreneurs Organization,
Boston Chapter. He is also a member
of the board of WasteCap of Massachusetts and a member
of MassRecycle.
